Jenny Mayer has faced many challenges in her life. While she has always had the motivation and support to go the extra mile, because of her disabilities, it was difficult for her to find a job. Unable to find employment, Jenny became totally dependent on government financial aid.

Over 7.6 million Americans receive Disability Insurance from the government; meaning that millions of individuals with disabilities are unable to be self-sufficient, leaving them unable to feel the dignity and power of being a working citizen. These individuals do not know what it is like to earn their own paycheck and spend their own money.

Jenny determined the next chapter of her story when she came to Goodwill. With supervisors who focused on her abilities and not her disabilities, Jenny found success in Goodwill's Food Service Training Program at the Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit. Jenny works very hard and takes her job very seriously. As a result of her success, she is no longer dependent on government aid, has given up her Social Security Income, significantly reduced her Social Security Disability Insurance and has both medical and dental benefits.
