Before coming to Goodwill, Cheryl Dickson was unable to find a job that provided the supervision and encouragement that she required to be successful. Cheryl's family worried she would not be given the opportunity to make something of herself.

According to the Department of Labor, only 18% of working age adults (18 to 64) with disabilities are employed. Many individuals with disabilities are unable to find placement with a company that has the resources to train and supervise employees with disabilities, leaving them unable to become successful.

Cheryl's story took a new direction when she joined Goodwill. She began her job training in the New Goods Processing Program at the Rivers Avenue Goodwill Retail Store. Cheryl learned the skills necessary to complete her tasks successfully and was quickly promoted to an independent position at the James Island Retail Store. Since Goodwill, Cheryl has become more outgoing and truly enjoys her job.
