The only thing Allen Rudick wanted was to have the same opportunity to earn a paycheck as everybody else. After several years of working at his first job, Allen's hours started getting cut. The company no longer had the time to devote to an employee with Down syndrome. Allen, having lost confidence in his abilities, resigned.

Down syndrome occurs in roughly 1 of every 750 births in the United States. These individuals are not always given the same opportunity to succeed. Many employers don't want to take the time to work with and train employees with Down syndrome, leaving them unable to feel the power of receiving a paycheck.

Allen opened a new chapter in his life when he walked through the doors of Goodwill. He was placed in a Goodwill Retail Store, where he was given the encouragement and guidance that he needed to be successful. His attitude immediately changed and Allen is now a happy, independent individual who loves to save and spend his hard earned paycheck. He proclaims himself "The King of Goodwill" and even has the jacket to prove it!
